Maud is a French-Australian architect based in Melbourne, Australia. After growing up in Luxemburg, Maud studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and Columbia University in New York. In 2000, she graduated in Architecture at the ETHZ in Zurich.
Maud worked internationally on a range of realized projects and prize-winning competitions: she worked in Paris at Christian de Portzamparc and in New York at Marble Fairbanks Architects on the Chicago schools competition and b+r Architects on a timber house. In Zurich (ch) she worked at Vehovar Jauslin on a meditation space , Wild Bär Heule on a private villa and for Meili Peter Architects on the Hyatt Hotel Zurich and the Hardturm stadium Zurich.
In 2005 she co-founded the office, XPACE architecture + urban design, together with Markus Jung. Its work focuses on urban diversity, and social and environmental responsiveness. XPACE projects have been widely published internationally including the artists’ studio Copper Fish in Luxemburg, the multi-generational apartment block Roentgenstrasse in Zurich, and their prize-winning urban design competition Geneva 2020. In 2011, the partners moved with their practice to Melbourne to work on local and international projects. In parallel to practicing, Maud has taught at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (NW) and the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). From 2009-11 she was a lecturer at the Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences in Fribourg (HES-SO)for Architecture and Construction. Since 2011, she has an ongoing position at Monash University in architecture and urban design.
Her recent research work has been published in leading architecture and design journals. Maud is regularly invited to critiques, workshops, conferences and seminars including at RMIT, Melbourne University, University of Technology Sydney, Southeast University in Nanjing, Urban Affairs Association US, Bauhaus Dessau, Liverpool University and the Venice Biennale.

Markus is a German architect based in Melbourne, Australia. He grew up in Italy and studied architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany obtaining his Diploma in 1997.
After moving to London, Markus worked for Sheppard Robson Architects on Central London projects on triton 5+6 and triton 2+3 and at Grimshaw Architects on the new Zurich airport. In 2001 he relocated to Switzerland to work with Meili Peter Architects on the realisation of the 5* Park Hyatt Hotel in Zurich and as a lead designer on several housing and urban design projects.
In 2005, together with his colleague Maud Cassaignau, Markus founded the practice XPACE, who are dedicated to contemporary architectural and urban design. Its work focuses on urban diversity, and social and environmental responsiveness. XPACE projects have been widely published internationally including the artists’ studio Copper Fish in Luxemburg, the multi-generational apartment block Roentgenstrasse in Zurich, and their prize-winning urban design competition Geneva 2020. In 2011, the partners moved with their practice to Melbourne to work on local and international projects.
In parallel to practicing, Markus has taught widely: at ETH Zurich (2004-10) the Zurich University of the Arts (2010-11)), as a visiting Professor at Southwest Jiatong University Chengdu in 2016, and at Monash University (2011-20).
Markus has lead transdisciplinary teams on design-research projects in China and Melbourne with a strong focus on water-responsive urbanism incorporating resources and the existing built and social fabrics as drivers for resilient growth. Beyond these commitments, Markus is regularly invited as a speaker and visiting critic to international conferences, workshops and review panels at Universities and organizations in Australia, Europe, US and China.
